The effectiveness of IVF
Almost everyone knows that infertility in our time is not a sentence. However, those patients who are planning IVF should understand that the effectiveness of the procedure is influenced by many criteria. And they can help or negate the efforts of doctors.
Patient's age
The younger a woman is, the more chances she has of successfully conceiving both naturally and with the help of in vitro fertilization.
During the entire reproductive period, the number of eggs suitable for fertilization in a woman is constantly decreasing. At the age of 35, their number can reach 25,000, and after overcoming the 50-year barrier, at best, only 1,000 female cells will remain. It is clear that with age, the chance of pregnancy decreases.
An additional risk for women over 40 is a high probability of miscarriage. The opportunity not only to get pregnant, but also to deliver a child for them is significantly lower than for younger patients. To get a positive result, sometimes you have to resort to using a donor egg or use the services of a surrogate mother.
IMPORTANT! In 47% of women younger than 35, IVF ends in childbirth. The sooner the couple thinks about the procedure, the more likely it is to succeed.
The state of the woman's health
Some health problems can significantly reduce the chances of successful IVF and the birth of a healthy full-term baby.
- A thin (less than 8 mm) endometrium of the uterus can be the cause of unsuccessful IVF or miscarriages. It can accompany such pathologies of the uterus as endometritis of the inner mucosa or multiple fibroids, and also manifest itself against the background of taking certain medications. The chance of pregnancy increases after hormone replacement therapy.
- With endometriosis, a woman has problems with the quality of eggs and embryo implantation. Most patients with this diagnosis undergo surgery. The IVF procedure after such treatment is carried out after only 7-25 months.
- Difficulties in fertilization may occur with obstruction of the fallopian tubes, fibroids and polyps of the uterine wall, intrauterine adhesions.
ATTENTION! But polycystic ovarian syndrome increases the likelihood of successful IVF. After all, women with this disease have an increased supply of eggs and large follicles.
The male factor
Cases of male infertility are predicted least favorably. But even here, measures are possible to increase the effectiveness of IVF.
The ICSI procedure consists in the careful selection of the highest quality sperm cells, which are manually fertilized by prepared eggs. Using this method increases the chances of becoming parents almost twice.
Quantity and quality of embryos
The chances of success increase if you transfer not one, but several embryos. The highest quality ones are selected, the best of them are planted on the patient. This can be done in a modern clinic equipped with the best equipment.
